The parliamentary elections in Gabon were held on December 17, 2006 , in seven electoral districts they were rescheduled for December 24 due to technical problems. The ruling Gabon Democratic Party won 82 out of 120 seats, while other parties that supported President Omar Bongo, including the National Logging Movement under the leadership of Paul Mba Abessol (while Abessol himself lost to Prime Minister Jean Eige Ndonga), received another 17 seats. [1] Other pro-presidential parties included the Democratic and Republican Alliance, the Circle of Liberal Reformers, and the Social Democratic Party.

The opposition received 17 seats. The union of the Gabonese people became the largest opposition party, receiving 8 seats of the National Assembly . Other opposition parties represented in the Parliament included the Gabonese Union for Democracy and Development, the Gabonese Progressive Party, the Congress for Democracy and Justice, the African Forum for Reconstruction and the National Loggers Movement - Democratic. Implications
In 20 constituencies, the results were annulled by the Constitutional Court due to fraud and technical problems. Re-election took place on June 10, 2007, however, turnout was extremely low. [4] At the same time, the ruling party won 11 seats, its allies received 6 seats, and the opposition - 2; one place went to a non-partisan candidate. [five]
