Biography

Graduate of the Faculty of Bulgarian Philology of Sofia University. St. Clement of Ohrid (1995). He worked as a graduate student in linguistics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences . Since 2001 - freelance translator from English for various publishers in Bulgaria.

Creativity

The author of several novels. Milen Ruskov published his first novel at the age of 35, but admits that his curiosity in literature from his youth gave him an impetus to the idea of becoming a writer.

Since the appearance of his first novel Pocket Encyclopedia of the Mysteries in 2004, his talent has been noticed and he received a prize for his debut in the Bulgarian science fiction South Spring. The book talks about some of the European occult traditions of the Renaissance.

In 2008, he was awarded the “VIC” prize for the best novel of the year for his book “Abandoned into Nature” on the distribution of tobacco in Europe by Spanish psychiatrist Dr. N. Sevilla.

At the Frankfurt Book Fair, he won the 2014 European Union Literary Prize. This award is given to the best young authors in Europe. The EU Literary Prize for 2014 was awarded to Milen Ruskov for his novel “The Exaltation”, dedicated to the period of the Bulgarian Renaissance. [1] In Bulgaria, the book was awarded the National Literary Prize named after Hristo Danova .

With irony and a subtle sense of humor, Ruskov created images of heroes that reveal the psychology of Bulgarians of the 19th century. Most of all this is facilitated by the language in which the book is written. The author himself calls it "a compromise between modern strict spelling and liberal revival chaos."

Of the three books by Milen Ruskov, the only “Exaltation” cannot be translated into another language. Due to the originality of the artistic style, its reading remains the privilege of the only Bulgarian readers.

Engaged in translations from English ( Jerome K. Jerome , Thomas de Quincy , Sarah Waters and others).
