Biography
He has been competing since 2013, mainly in cross-country and highway running . He became the winner of the half marathon in Ceske Budejovice (2013), crosses in Alcobendas (2015) and Seville (2016), 10-kilometer runs in Addis Ababa and Bolzano (2015).
At the debut marathon in Dubai in 2014, he took fourth place with a score of 2: 06.17.
He played for the Ethiopian team at the 2015 World Cross-country Championship , where he finished 6th at a 12-kilometer distance and won gold in the team event. In 2016, he was 5th at the world championship in half marathon in the British Cardiff with a personal record of 1: 00.06. As part of the team, he took the silver team championship.
At the Ethiopian Olympic selection at a distance of 10,000 meters (held at the Fanny Blankers-Kun Memorial in the Dutch Hengelo ) took second place after Yigrem Demelasha . Thanks to this success, he was included in the team for a trip to Rio de Janeiro [1] . At the Games he won a bronze medal, losing in the decisive race only to the Olympic champion Briton Mohammed Farah and Kenyan Paul Tanui . In the fight for the podium, he was only one hundredth of a second ahead of Demelasha.
In January 2017, he won the prestigious Dubai Marathon with a new personal record and the 17th result in world history - 2: 04.11 [2] .
Trained under the leadership of Gemed Dedefoe. He plays for the police in the Oromiya region [3] .
