Biography

Juan Jose was born in 1955 in the city of Zaragoza , Spain [1] .

He received his higher education and a bachelor's degree in 1977 from the Complutense University of Madrid , in 1979 he defended a diploma in mathematics at the Complutense University of Madrid , and received a master's degree in mathematics from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1981, and was awarded a doctorate in 1988 in economics at Oxford University [1] .

He began teaching in 1977-1978 as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Economics at Complutense University of Madrid . In 1985-1986 he was an assistant professor at the Department of Econometrics, in 1987-1988 he was a lecturer in economics at Oxford University . In 1982-1985 and in 1988-1991 he was a senior economist, and in 1992-1996 he was chief economist in the research department of the Bank of Spain . Since 1997, professor at the Department of Economics, and in 1998-2001, Dean of the Faculty of Economics , Carlos III University of Madrid . Since January 1, 2014, Professor of Economics [2] .

Visiting professor at the in 1995-2000. Since 2000, member of the supervisory committee of the European Central Bank . In 1989-1996, assistant editor of the Revista Española de Economía, in 1996-2000 co-editor, and in 2001-2004 managing editor of the Spanish Economic Review. Also in 1998-2001, the editor of Asociado Investigaciones Económicas, in 1995-2000 the co-editor of the Econometric Theory, in 1998-2001 the co-editor of the European Economic Review, in 2000-2011 the assistant editor of Bulletin of Economic Research, in 2005-2013, co-editor of Labor Economics. Currently, since 2012, the assistant editor of IZA Journal of Labor Policy and since 2014, the assistant editor of Macroeconomic Dynamics [2] .

In 1997-2001, a member of the Council, in 2005-2010, a member of the Executive Council and Treasurer of the . In 2001, President of the Spanish Economic Association, Honorary Member of the Spanish Economic Association. Member of the group of political advisers to the president of the European Commission since 2002 [1] .

Juan is married to Carmen and has two daughters: Anna and Laura [2] .
