Biography

Israel Borisovich Babushkin was born on March 1, 1866 in Kiev . He worked as the director of the Sadovsky and Bogatovsky sugar factories of the Russian Empire.

In the years 1911-1912 Israel Borisovich Babushkin, designed by architect M. Klug on the street. Tverskoy, 7, built a surgical hospital and a free outpatient clinic. It was open to all those in need, both Jews and non-Jews.

On the night of October 13, 1916, by order of the highest military authorities, who ordered I. B. Babushkin and Yu. G. Gepner to be searched and, regardless of the results, he was ordered to arrest them [1] . The arrests of Babushkin and Gepner made β€œa stunning impression on Kiev sugar producers and caused a sensation in the city” [2] ). The first meeting with the family was allowed to Babushkin only on February 5, 1917, but the investigation was not yet over at that time [3] . He, like other sugar makers, was accused of being a German agent, but under the Minister of Justice Dobrovolsky, the falsified case was terminated "at the Highest Command." Babushkin was released on February 22, 1917.

In 1920, after the overthrow of the king’s power and expropriation of property, he emigrated to France .

In 1921 he founded the "Paris-Banque".

He was buried in the Bagnes cemetery .
