Goniatoksin (goniautoksin) - phytotoxins that emit dinoflagellates Gymnodinium , Pyrodinium and cyanobacteria of Anabaena , Cylindrospermopsis , as well as some other organisms of phytoplankton , common in salty and fresh waters of North and South America as well as in Europe and Asia. The structure is close to saxitoxin .
Being transmitted by food chains in unchanged or partially transformed form, gonyatoxin tends to accumulate in the tissues of mollusks , crustaceans and fish . This leads to poisoning of the animals that feed on them, as well as man [1] .
The main action of goniatoxin is neuroparalytic, achieved by blocking in nerve and muscle cells , which prevents the nerve impulse from spreading and blocks muscle contraction [1] . As a result, paralysis of muscles occurs, causing respiratory failure. Experiments conducted on rabbits have shown that goniatoxin causes cardiac arrhythmia and a decrease in blood pressure in mammals, and tachycardia in large doses.
