- January 11 - the introduction in the Russian kingdom of a new chronology (Julian calendar) : after December 31, 7208 from the creation of the world , January 1, 1700 came from the birth of Christ . The beginning of the year is postponed to January 1.
- Edmund Halley on the ship "Paramur" reached the Antarctic Polar Front and gave its description [1] .
- The Italian doctor Bernardino Ramadzini published a treatise On Workers' Diseases ( lat. De Morbis Artificum Diatriba ), which laid the foundation for occupational disease medicine.
- July 11 - Prussian Academy of Sciences founded.
