Production

Design

Kiefer Sutherland announced that he will not return to "24 Hours: Heritage" in the role of Jack Bauer .

In January 2015, executive producers Howard Gordon , Evan Katz , Manny Coto and Brian Grazer filed another 24-hour franchise. It revolves around a group of minor characters, rather than around Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer . [37] In May 2015, Fox announced the development of a new version of "24 hours." [38] In June 2015, Howard Gordon announced that there would be a young main character in the spin-off, along with a slightly older and more experienced female agent. It was confirmed that Evan Katz and Manny Coto will return as scriptwriters and executive producers. It was also confirmed that the “real time” format will be used in the spin-off, as Gordon said, since this is a tradition of the show. [39]

In January 2016, Fox announced that it had ordered a pilot for the spin-off called “24 Hours: Legacy”, where there is a new cast, where there will not be old characters. The series retains the real-time mode, however it consists of 12 episodes, using time jumps to cover the events of one day. The two main characters are a war hero and a woman, who is the former head of the KTO. [40] Stephen Hopkins , who shot the original 24 Hours pilot and several episodes from the first season, directed the Heritage pilot. [41] In April 2016, Fox officially gave the series a green light by ordering 12 episodes. [42] Frequent director of the series John Cassar will also return as a director and producer of Heritage, shooting 6 of 12 episodes. [43] Sean Colleri will also return as a series composer. [44] On May 5, 2016, Deadline announced that Nikki Toscano had already signed a contract with 20th Century Fox and will be co-producer of the show. [45] Although it was previously reported that not a single former character would appear on the show, the producers hinted at the possibility that Mary Lynn Rajskub would appear on the show as Chloe O'Brien. [46] In an interview with Digital Spy , Katz revealed that the script for the first episode was written in eight months. He also announced that the future “24 Hours: Heritage” seasons will consist of only 12 episodes. [7]

Jack Bauer's appearance

In June 2015, Sutherland said when asked about Jack Bauer's future: “I won’t be back in the 24 hours.” Sutherland said that “24 hours” is such a great idea that can go on forever. ”Sutherland said that he felt that it was important that there be a new cast to save the series, and he hopes that he may be in the future to appear as a cameo. [47] In September 2015, Sutherland seemed to have ruled out any further participation in the show, stating that he “would not return for sure.” [48] In February 2016, Sutherland said about a possible return to “24 o'clock ”:“ I have learned enough in the past few years that one should never say. We never intended to shoot the ninth season, when we finished the eighth season. I said we are everything. So I’ll just say we’ll see. ”He also said about the“ Heritage ”pilot script, that he was“ very cool ”and that he“ would look at it first. ” [49]

Scenario

In June 2015, Howard Gordon announced that there will be a new young main character in the spin-off, along with a slightly older and more experienced female agent. It was confirmed that Evan Katz and Manny Coto will return to the series as scriptwriters and executive producers. It was also confirmed that the spin-off will use the format of "real time", since, as Gordon says, this is a tradition of the show. [39] In an interview, Katz stated that it took eight months to write the first script for the first episode. He stated that one of the difficulties was that "he had to meet the expectations of people who were high and should have been high." [7] He also said that the show would take place three months after the events shown in " 24 o'clock: Live another day, ”and Washington will be the scene. The series will present the national headquarters of CTU , located in Washington. CTU offices located in Los Angeles and New York were previously shown at 24 hours . [7] [8]

In an interview with Newsday , showrunner Howard Gordon spoke about the design of the show. He said:

Manny had an idea that wasn’t a 24 Hours idea, but when we talked, we thought, wow, maybe we could deploy the idea with this character that was based on real events - the special forces group that killed Osama bin Laden and then returned to the USA, where their personalities were imperceptible, and it was difficult for them to adapt to this. This was the background of the character, and we realized that it could be interesting and could become a focal point. [50]

Casting

Corey Hawkins plays the lead role, Eric Carter.

On January 25, 2016, after lengthy negotiations, it was announced that the lead role, Eric Carter, would be performed by Corey Hawkins . [3] Hawkins was the only candidate for the role after the casting director, Lisa Miller Katz, watched his performance in “The Voice of the Streets ”. [7] On the same day, it was announced that Miranda Otto had received the female lead of Rebecca Ingram, the former director of CTU. [4] Otto immediately agreed to the role, stating that she wanted a role associated with “the world of the CIA and terrorism”, similar to her role in “ Motherland ”. [51]

Veteran "24 hours" Carlos Bernard will repeat the role of Tony Almeida .

In February 2016, several castings were announced. February 16, 2016 Deadline announced that Anna Diop joined the show in the role of Nicole Carter, Eric's wife. [9] A week later it was announced that Teddy Sears was cast as Keith Mullins, head of CTU. [10] A few days later, TVLine reported that Jimmy Smits got the role of John Donovan, the husband of Rebecca Ingram and the powerful US senator with the highest political aspirations. [18] In March 2016, it was announced that Dan Bukatinsky , Coral Peña and Charlie Hofheimer had joined the show. Bukatinsky and Peña were taken on the role of Andy and Jia, two communication analysts at CTU, while Hofheimer was given the role of Marcus, Erik's former partner in the army ranger squad, who is now suffering from PTSD . [12] A few days later, it was announced that Ashley Thomas got the role of Isaac Carter, Eric's older brother. [eleven]

On March 9, 2016, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Zayn Emory was cast as Drew Phelps, a junior at Marshall School, who is in love with Amir. [20] Sheila Vand got the role of Neela, campaign director of Senator Donovan. [13] On September 29, 2016, it was announced that Tiffany Hines and Bailey Chase were given repetitive roles in the series. Heins will play Aisha, Isaac Carter's girlfriend, while Chase will play Locke, CTU field operations head in Washington. [22] On October 5, 2016, Variety announced that Veronica Cartwright was given the role of Margaret Donovan, the mother of Senator John Donovan, while Layt Nakli would play Kusamu, a seasoned jihadist who hunts for Eric Carter. [23] During the press tour of the New York Comic Con, the producers of the show announced that 24 Hours veteran Carlos Bernard would return to the role of Tony Almeida in 24 Hours: Heritage. [nineteen]

Promotion

It was announced that the premiere of the series “24 Hours: Heritage” will take place on February 5, 2017, acting as a host for Super Bowl Li. [52] Fox released a trailer for the TV series on May 16, 2016, featuring footage from the first episode. [53] A promotional poster was released on July 15, 2016. [54] “24 Hours: Heritage” was presented on the panel of the San Diego Comic-Con International on July 24, 2016, with the participation of Corey Hawkins, Miranda Otto, Jimmy Smits, Howard Gordon, Manny Coto and Evan Katz, where the series’s fans were the first to who saw scenes from the pilot episode. [55] The cast promoted the show and talked about what would happen on the show. [56] On August 10, 2016 a new video about the creation of the series was released on the official account of the show on YouTube . [57] During the TCA press tour, Fox revealed some interesting facts about the show and its future seasons. Executive producer Evan Katz revealed that the show will have 12 episodes for each season.
