Born in Nagpur , Sindh ethnicity (not to be confused with Sikhs ). The Hirani family moved to Nagpur during the partition of India , from the region that moved to Pakistan . Parents wanted his son to become an accountant, but he was much more interested in cinema. He studied at the editor of the film, for a long time worked in advertising. He shot his first feature film in 2003, at the age of more than 40 years, and this film - Munna Bhai MBBS , immediately received cult status in India, as it completely rethought all the traditions characteristic of Bollywood cinema. The next film, " Brother Munna 2 " (2006), was no less popular.
The third in a row was the film “ 3 Idiots ” of 2009 with Aamir Khan , Sharman Joshi and Madhavan in the lead roles. The film about middle-class Indian youth, decisively breaking with the conservatism of Indian society, was the highest grossing record in Bollywood history, and held this record for four years. The fourth film of the director - “ Pikey ”, where Aamir Khan also played the main role, was released in 2014, after which Hirani for the second time broke India’s box office record. Modern Indian society in the film is viewed through the eyes of an alien Pikea (Aamir Khan), and the emphasis is on criticizing the religious principles that, in multi-faith India, lead to religious conflicts. The film was criticized by a number of Hindu religious leaders (it came to filing lawsuits and vandalism in cinema buildings [1] ), however, it received support from many government officials - for example, the chief ministers of the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar specifically abolished the tax on fees to lower the cost of tickets for the population [2] .
