History
Until 1991, the Gabon parliament consisted only of the National Assembly. The Senate was founded in accordance with the 1991 Constitution. However, the Senate was actually created only in 1997, when the first elections to the upper house of parliament were held [1] .
The first president of the Senate was in 1997, Georges Raviri (1932-2006), national politician and associate of President Omar Bongo , who served as president of the Senate until his death in 2006. In 2006-2009, the President of the Senate was Rene Radembino Koniket. Rosa Francine Rogombe was elected President of the Senate in February 2009. After the death of President Omar Bong, she served as president from June to October 2009. For this period, she was replaced by Leonard Anjembe. She left the post of President of the Senate in February 2015.
