Biography
Moshe Kolodniy was born in Pinsk in the Russian Empire (now in Belorussia), studied at the Heder and the Hebrew Jewish school in his hometown and was one of the founders of the Ha Oved ha-Zioni youth movement in Poland.
He immigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1932 and settled in the Kibbutz Kfar Sawa , which was associated with Ha Oved ha-Zioni. He joined the Histadrut trade union , was a member of its executive committee from 1941 to 1946, and also served on the board of directors of the Jewish Agency , where he headed the Youth Department.
May 15, 1948 Kohl took part in the signing of the Declaration of Independence of Israel and became a member of the Provisional State Council . He was also one of the founders of the Progressive Party .
In July 1951, he was elected to the Knesset , but resigned six weeks later. He returned to the Knesset after the elections of 1959, and soon after becoming a member of the Liberal Party , which was formed as a result of the merger of the Progressive Party and the Party of General Zionists . After he retained his place in the Knesset after the elections in 1961, Kohl joined the group mainly from former members of the Progressive Party, who split off from the Liberal Party to form the Party of Independent Liberals in protest against its merger with Menachem Begin’s party " Herut ."
After the 1965 elections, independent liberals joined the Levy Eshkol coalition, and Kohl was appointed minister of tourism and development minister. In accordance with party policy, he left the Knesset after being appointed to the cabinet. After the elections in 1969 and 1973, Kohl was again appointed minister of tourism and again made room in the Knesset.
He lost his seat in the Knesset after the elections in 1977, when his party won only one seat in parliament. After leaving the Knesset, he wrote several books on Israeli domestic and foreign policy and died in 1989.
