The construction of the plant began in 1943, on March 5, 1944 the first open-hearth furnace was put into operation, in 1945 - the second, in 1949 - the third. In September 1946, the small-grade mill “300” was commissioned, and in May 1948, the thin-sheet mill “700”. Research institutes and institutions of Kiev and Kharkov took part in the design of the plant. [2] The open-hearth workshop reached its design capacity in 1950, and the rolling mill in 1951. The plant remelted scrap metal, as well as pig iron supplied by metallurgical plants of the Urals and Kazakhstan. Finished products were used by machine-building enterprises and construction organizations. In 1974, the production of enameled glassware was mastered. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the plant was expanded through the construction of an electric steel and rolling shops, as well as auxiliary workshops.
