Biography
Carlos Carve Urioste was born, presumably, in the early 1880s in Montevideo. In 1899, he began to play for Nacional , which would subsequently become one of the strongest teams in Uruguay. In 1902 and 1903, Carve Urioste, together with the “tricolor” won the Uruguay Championship twice in a row.
Carve Urioste played for the Uruguayan national team from 1902 to 1906, having played four matches for it (all against the Argentines), the last two as captain. He took part in three historical matches against Argentina . July 20, 1902 in Montevideo, two teams held their first official match between teams outside the British Isles . Uruguayans have largely lost to their neighbors - 0: 6. In 1903, Uruguay paid a visit to Buenos Aires. Since the national champion at that time was Nacional, it was decided to put this club in full force as the national team of Uruguay. “Celeste” in a tense match, held on September 13 at the Ipika Stadium, turned out to be stronger with a score of 3: 2, and this was the first victory in the history of the Uruguay national team [2] .
In 1905, Carve Urioste returned to the national team (in 1904 there was a civil war in Uruguay, because of which football tournaments were not held), already as a captain. At the beginning of the 20th century, the captain determined the composition of the team and actually played the role of a playing coach. The Uruguayan national team tied with the Argentines in the stadium "Buenos Aires Sportiva" and according to the rules became the winner of the first ever Lipton Cup draw as a team that did not lose away.
The last meeting for the “celeste” Carve Urioste held in 1906, on August 15, Uruguayans on Park Central lost to Argentina with a score of 0: 2 in the framework of the second Lipton Cup.
Carlos Carve Urioste played for Nacional until 1907, after which he ended his career as a football player. For many years he worked in the club structure of Nacional. He died on September 14, 1965.
