Canet-en-Roussillon ( Fr. Canet-en-Roussillon ) - a commune in France, a department of the Eastern Pyrenees , Occitania region. It is the administrative center of the canton of La Cote Sables , Perpignan district [1] . In 2013, the population of the commune was 12,436 people, Saint-Esteve - the second commune in the department in terms of numbers. Mayor of the city - Bernard Dupont. The municipality is a famous resort; it is the nearest coast to the city of Perpignan .

Geographical position
Canet-en-Roussillon is located in the south of France on the Mediterranean coast.
History
In the Middle Ages, Cana was surrounded by massive walls more than 6 meters wide, in the castle there were 14 towers [2] . On January 1, 1972, Canet was united with the commune of Saint-Nazaire in Canet-en-Roussillon-Saint-Nazaire. On November 15, 1983, Saint-Nazaire was recreated, and the commune returned the name Canet-en-Roussillon [1] .
Population
According to the 2013 census, the population of Canet-en-Roussillon was 12,436 people (46.5% of men and 53.5% of women); there were 6,491 households and 3,603 families in the commune. The population of the commune was distributed according to the age range as follows: 11.7% - residents under 14 years old, 12.2% - between 15 and 29 years old, 15.1% - from 30 to 44 years old, 19.1% - from 45 to 59 years and 41.0% - at the age of 60 years and older [3] .
Among the 6491 households, 55.5% were families: 14.6% had children, 31.7% were childless, 9.2% were single-parent families. Among residents older than 15 years, 48.3% were married, 51.7% were non-married [3] .
Among the population over 15 years old (10,227 people), 33.9% of the population did not have education or had only primary education or graduated from college only, 23.4% received a high school diploma or completed a secondary education or specialized secondary education, 19.2 % - completed a reduced higher education and 23.5% - received a full higher education [3] .
In 2012, out of 7049 people of working age (from 15 to 64 years old), 4512 were economically active, 2537 were inactive (an activity indicator of 64.0%, in 2007 - 63.9%). Of the 4,512 active able-bodied residents, 3,524 people worked (1,751 men and 1,773 women), 988 were considered unemployed. Among 2,537 able-bodied inactive citizens, 627 were pupils or students, 1,121 were pensioners, and another 838 were inactive for other reasons. Population distribution by employment in the commune: 0.3% - agricultural workers, 4.5% - artisans, merchants, business leaders, 5.6% - workers in the intellectual sphere, 10.8% - social workers , 13.5% - government employees, 6.6% - workers and 44.2 - retired [3] . In 2013, the average income per resident per month was 1926 €, per year - 23,114 € [4] .
