Description
Mostly herbaceous plants , also small shrubs . Flowers are collected in apical brushes . Pre-sheets , as a rule, are absent (available from Conopholis ).
Two- lipped flower corolla . The upper lip is helmet-like or dilated. Anthers of stamens from two halves, usually spiky, rounded in Bornmuellerantha . The stigma of the pestle is capitate, clavate or bilobate.
The fetus is a loculicidal capsule , in Omphalotrix - septicidal, in Tozzia - drupe .
