Biography
Born into a wealthy Muslim family. He entered the political life in his student years.
During the Second World War, he fought against the Japanese militarists in Burma. Then he was engaged in social activities during the post-war outbreak of the plague and the non-Muslim pogroms (1946).
In 1954-1958 He was the secretary of the consumer cooperative society of Rangpur, which became the largest in East Pakistan. In the late 1950s. He was elected the youngest chairman of the Rangpur County Council in history, but was soon forced to resign. In 1957, he headed the organizing committee of the East Pakistan Youth Festival. Being a football fan at the head of a sports society since childhood, he organized sports competitions for teenagers and youth in his native district. He was also known for his charity work, helping the poor.
In 1962, he was elected a member of the National Council of Pakistan and deputy leader of the opposition. In 1963 he was arrested for participating in the anti-government movement.
On the eve of the War of Independence, Bangladesh becomes deputy leader of the National Avamist Party, Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, and its secretary general. In the mid-1970s he was persecuted, arrested and sentenced to imprisonment for three years and two months. In 1974, the Supreme Court ruled that a politician should be released. However, three months after this decision in June 1974, he was again arrested and remained in prison until November 1975.
After the restoration of the ministerial system (1977) and the rise to power of President Ziaur Rahman in 1978, he was appointed prime minister in the status of prime minister, also responsible for the Ministry of Railways, Highways and Roads of Bangladesh. He played an important role in the creation of the Nationalist Party of Bangladesh .
Suddenly died in April 1979 from the effects of a stroke.
