History

The ship for testing the experimental marine version of the Aquilon laser complex became part of the Black Sea Fleet on October 30, 1984.

Initially, it was made by remaking the SDK-20 medium-sized landing ship of Project 770 . Re-equipment of the ship was conducted by the Sevastopol Sevmorzavod. It took seven years to create the components of a “powerful power plant” and rebuild the former landing ship. The changes affected the hull - the ramps were replaced with a stem and a bow section. Additional side boules were made up to 1.5 meters wide, added cofferdams and sound-absorbing insulation. The new design was developed under the leadership of the head of the sector of the Central Design Bureau “Chernomorets” E. Garbushin. Architectural supervision was carried out by TsKB Chernomorets. Already the first tests of laser weapons were successful and destroyed a low-flying rocket. After the collapse of the USSR, the vessel was officially scrapped.
