The XXVI Russian Volleyball Championship among 14 teams of the men's Super League was held from September 27, 2016 to May 11, 2017. The winner for the fourth time in a row and for the ninth time in history was Kazan “Zenith” .

Preliminary Stage
According to the results of the preliminary stage, 10 teams became participants in the playoffs: 2 strongest teams went directly to the “Final Six”, and the teams that took 3-10 places played a series of matches up to two victories for reaching the “Final Six”. The teams that took the 12th and 13th places at the preliminary stage were to play a transition tournament with the 2nd and 3rd teams of the Premier League “A” championship, but due to the difficult financial situation the matches were canceled [1] . The team that finished last was eliminated in the Premier League “A”.
Unlike previous seasons, the main criterion for the distribution of places in the standings is the number of victories, and not the number of tournament points (this rule applies to other leagues of the Russian championship).
In the first round match between Zenit and Moscow Dynamo in Kazan , the Russian Super Cup named after Alexei Yakushev was played.
In the 17th round, the match between Dynamo (Krasnodar) and Yenisei did not take place, Dynamo was credited with a technical defeat - 0: 3 (0:25, 0:25, 0:25). This was due to the refusal of volleyball players to enter the game due to non-payment of salaries [2] .
