Duke de Barcelos ( port. Duque de Barcelos ) - Portuguese aristocratic title, the holders of which owned Barcelos . It was created on August 5, 1562 by King Sebastian for Juan de Bragança (1543-1583), the future 6th Duke of Bragança. The title of the Duke de Barcelos was worn by the heirs of the house of Braganza , the eldest sons and heirs of the Dukes of de Braganza. In 1640, after the restoration of the independence of the Portuguese kingdom and the accession to the Portuguese throne of Juan IV de Braganç , the 8th Duke de Braganç (1604-1656), the dukes of Barcelos continued to wear the title of the Dukes de Braganços, heirs of the Portuguese royal throne.

Count de Barcelos
The title of Count de Barcelos ( port. Conde de Barcelos ) was created on May 8, 1298 by the Portuguese King Dinis for Juan Afonso de Menezes, 4th lord de Alburkerke ( d.1304 ). He was succeeded by his brother-in-law Martin Gilles de Riba Wiesela (c. 1260-1312), married to Violanta Sanchez, the eldest daughter of Juan Afonso de Menezes and Teresa Sanchez. The third Earl of Barcelos was the last Galician-Portuguese troubadour Pedro Afonso of Portugal (1287-1354), the illegitimate son of Portuguese King Dinis I. In 1354, he was succeeded by Juan Afonso Teles de Menezes, 1st Earl of Oren and 4th Earl de Barcelos (d. 1381), son of Afonso Teles de Meneses Rapozo (c. 1280–1340). His son, Juan Afonso Teles, 5th Earl de Barcelos, died during his father's life, leaving no offspring. The 6th Earl of Barcelos was Juan Afonso Teles (d. 1385), the eldest son of the Portuguese nobleman Martin Afonso Teles de Menezes (d. 1356). João Afonso Teles was the brother of the Portuguese Queen Leonora (1350–1386), the wife of King Fernando I. After the death in 1385 of Juan Afonso Teles de Menezes in the battle of Aljubarrot, the count title went to the Portuguese Connable Nun Alvarez Pereira (1360-1431). He was succeeded by his son-in-law Afonso de Braganca (1377-1461), the illegitimate son of King of Portugal Juan I and his mistress Ines Peres Esteves. In 1442, Afonso de Braganca, 8th Earl de Barcelos, received the title of 1st Duke de Braganca .

- Juan Afonso Teles de Menezes, 1st Earl de Barcelos (d. 1304), son of Rodrigue Anes de Menezes, grandson of Juan Afonso Telo de Menezes, 2nd Senor Alburkerque (d. 1268). Married to Teresa Sanchez, the late daughter of the King of Castile and Leon Sancho IV. The newly established title of Count de Barcelos received May 8, 1298 [1] .
- Martin Gilles de Riba Vizela, 2nd Earl de Barcelos (c. 1260–1312), Portugal's main standard bearer, was married to Violanta Sanchez, daughter of Juan Afonso Teles de Menezes, 1st Earl de Barcelos, and Teresa Sanchez. The count's title was granted on October 15, 1304 [2] .
- Portuguese Pedro Afonso, 3rd Earl of de Barcelos (1287-1354), Portugal alferes , was awarded the title of Count de Barcelos on May 1, 1314 [2] , compiler of the Book of Genealogies and compiler of the General Chronicle of Spain of 1344 , illegitimate son of King Dinis I. of Portugal

- Juan Afonso Teles de Menezes, 6th Earl de Barcelos (d. 1385), the title of Count de Barcelos was granted until January 27, 1382, Admiral, in September 1384 in Castile received the title of Count de Mallorca [5] , Martin Afonso Teles son de Menezes (d. 1356) and brother of Queen of Portugal Leonora (1350–1386).
