Literary and cultural journal " Comments " was founded in 1992 by writer and publisher Alexander Davydov [1] .

The magazine’s task is to acquaint the Russian reader with the latest developments in the field of literature and the humanities, both in our country and abroad. The very first or among the first in Russia, the journal began publishing the works of such foreign philosophers and cultural scientists as J. Bataille , J. Derrida , M. Blanchot , J. Deleuze , A. Ronall, S. Zizek and many others. etc., as well as domestic: V. Podorogi , B. Groys , M. Ryklin and others. The journal has opened and many literary names currently known in Russia. The Commentaries also published world-famous Russian scholars of humanities: V.V. Ivanov , M. Gasparov , B. Uspensky , etc. Moreover, this is not a dry academic publication: the magazine tries not to lose its sense of humor, does not shy away from hoaxes and hoaxes .

The great role in the formation and activity of the magazine was played by the poets Aleksey Parshchikov and Arkady Dragomoshchenko , who composed the St. Petersburg numbers of The Comments.

Almost immediately, the magazine was appreciated by qualified readers, as evidenced by a survey of 50 experts (Book Review 2.1.96), who named “Comments” in the top three Russian magazines. In the textbook for gymnasiums (Russian Postmodernist Literature, Moscow, 1999), the journal was recommended as additional literature, and it was also used at universities to study the specialties of philosophy and cultural studies. The magazine was noticed and abroad. The Encyclopedia Brittannica (Yearbook 1997, article “Russian Literature 1996”), and subsequently mentioning the magazine among Russian publications that deserve attention, were also included in the three best contemporary magazines in Russia. Readers were especially interested in the thematic issues of the magazine: “French literature. XX century ”,“ Philosophy of art ”,“ Packaging ”,“ Erotica ”, number dedicated to the memory of A. Parshchikov.

Since 2003, the magazine has been publishing book applications. The series “Alexandria Regiment” published works by V. Aristov , A. Ilichevsky , A. Tavrov and others. In addition to the works of Russian authors, translated books are published, both poetic and prosaic. The works of A. Köstler , M. Palmer (both books from English), A. Schmidt (with German), M. Jacob , M. Tardieu, E. Zhabes , J. Follen, G. Goffet (all from French) were published. and etc.

After a break, at the very beginning of 2017, No. 29 of the magazine was released (its theme was “Sleep”).
