Vecate ( Latvian: Vecate ) is a settlement in the Burtnieksky region of Latvia . The administrative center of Vecati volost . Located on the P16 highway ( Valmiera - Matisi - Mazsalaca ). Valmiera is about 37 km away [1] . Nearby is the Salaca River and Lake Burtnieks .

History
The settlement arose at the former estate of Vecate (Alt-Ottennof). First mentioned in 1622.
In Soviet times, the village was the center of the Vecatsky village council of the Valmiera region [1] .
