Astronomy
- Isaac Newton and Edmond Halley published John Flemstead's Historia Coelestis star catalog without consent. [1] The final version, approved by Flamstead, was published posthumously in 1725.

- Brooke Taylor presented a version of his theorem .
- Jacques Philippe Maraldi experimentally obtained an angle in the form of a rhombic dodecahedron , which has since been called the Maraldi angle.

- Thomas Newcomen and John Collie for pumping water from the mines of the Black Country (England) built the first known working steam engine . [2]
