Designed and built under the supervision of the architect Vincenzo Scamozzi in 1591-1602. Pronaos and the Corinthian columns were designed by Andrea Tirali in 1706-1714. In 1849, due to shelling from the Austrian artillery, the building suffered great damage: the cannonball pierced the dome and fell near the main altar. In memory of this episode, the core is walled into the facade of the building.
The church is the official venue of the Orchestra Mosaico Barocco orchestra and the Cuarteto Major quartet.
