Biography

Born in the city of Livny, Orel province.

He graduated from the Mining Institute in 1914 with a degree in mining engineer. He worked as a geologist, hydraulic engineer, engineer in various organizations of the Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of Agriculture.

In 1914-1920 he worked as a hydraulic engineer at the Tauride-Yekaterinoslav Department of Agriculture and State Property.

In 1920-1926 he was the deputy head of the Water Resources Directorate of the People's Commissariat of Crimea.

Since 1929, he worked as a senior engineer, head of the technical part of the engineering geology section of the Institute of Groundwater, and then head of the engineering geology section of the Central Research Institute of Geology.

Since 1930 - professor, head of the department of engineering geology, and since 1935, head of the joint department of hydro-geology and engineering geology of the Leningrad Mining Institute. He was engaged in issues of hydrogeology and engineering geology [1] . Founder of the scientific school "Engineering Geology" [2]

On August 7, 1937, two days after returning from the 17th International Geological Congress , Nikolai Vasilievich Bobkov was arrested by the NKVD Directorate of the Leningrad Region. Charged under Art. 58, p. 7, 8, 11 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR. Sentenced by VK VK on February 18, 1938 to capital punishment. Shot in Leningrad on the same day along with geologists D.I. Mushketov , V. Yu. Cherkesov , G.N. Frederiks . The burial place is Leningrad.

By the definition of the Supreme Court of the Armed Forces of October 22, 1957, "the sentence ... in respect of Bobkov N.V. was canceled and the case was dismissed for lack of corpus delicti" [3]
