Biography
Doctor. Since 1969, Professor of Middle Ages History of the Vienna University, in 1981-83. Dean of the Faculty of Humanities.
In 1983-2002. Director of the Austrian Institute of Historical Research of Vienna University, then Emerit Director.
Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, member of the Slovenian Academy of Arts and the Arts and the British Acad. (1996) [3] , as well as the American Academy of Medieval Studies and the Royal Historical Society.
Among his awards is the Austrian medal "For Science and Art" (2000).
