Biography

Carmen Franco was born in Oviedo , the administrative center of the autonomous community of Asturias . At baptism, she received the name Maria del Carmen Ramona Felipa Maria de la Cruz. In childhood and adolescence, Carmen was known by various nicknames such as Nenuka , Carmelilla , Carmencita , Cota, and Morita .

After the death of his father, caudillo Francisco Franco , in 1975, the new king of Spain, Juan Carlos I, gave Carmen Franco the title of Duchess Franco with the title of Grandessa.

On July 12, 1979, Carmen, along with her mother and some family members, was rescued from a fire at the Corona Aragon Hotel in Zaragoza.

Carmen de Franco lived in Madrid and was president of the Francisco Franco National Foundation. In November 2008, she presented the book Franco, My Father , a biography of a dictator written by historians Jesús Palacios and Stanley George Payne .

Lady of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem and the Great Cross of the Civil Order of Mercy (1962) and the Grand Cross of the Order of Chula Chom Klao . October 19, 2013 Carmen Franco became the lady of the noble corps of the principality of Asturias .

Family and children

On April 10, 1950, in the palace of El Pardo, Carmen Franco married Cristobal Martínez-Bordiu, the 10th Marquis de Villaverde (August 1, 1922 - February 4, 1998). The couple had seven children (four daughters and three sons). All children were born in the palace of El Pardo .

February 26, 1951), in 1972 - 1982, was married to Prince Alfonso de Bourbon, Duke of Anjou and Cadiz (1936–89), grandson of King Alfonso XIII of Spain. The couple had two sons. In 1984 - 1994, Maria del Carmen was again married to Frenchman Jean-Marie Rossi (born 1930), from whose marriage she had a daughter. In 2006 - 2013, her third husband was Spaniard José Campos García (born 1964).
