Hainzel Crater ( lat. Hainzel ) - a large ancient impact crater in the southern hemisphere of the visible side of the moon . The name was given in honor of the German astronomer Paul Heinzel (1527-1581) and approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1935. The formation of the crater belongs to the nectar period [1] .

Crater Description
The closest neighbors of the Heinzel crater are the Mi crater adjacent to its southern part and the Epimenides crater in the east. To the northwest of the crater is the Lake of Excellence ; in the northeast is the Lake of Awe [2] . The selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater are , diameter 70.6 km [3] , depth 4430 m [4] .
The Heinzel Crater has a polygonal shape and is almost completely destroyed, most of it on the north side is blocked by the Heinzel A and Heinzel C satellite craters, so only the southern part of the bowl and the shaft has been preserved from the crater. The surviving part of the bowl is crossed, a short chain of craters departs from the southern part of the shaft in a southeastern direction.
