Biography
Peter Ge was born and spent his childhood in Italy , where his father ( Nikolai Ge ) was a retiree of the Imperial Academy of Arts . During this period, he was captured (with his brother Nicholas ) in the picture of his father “The boys at the seashore. Etude ”(1868, State Tretyakov Gallery ) [2] .
June 14, 1878 Peter graduated from St. Petersburg Second Real School [3] . after which he received an architectural education [1] . Between 1872 and 1889 he did military service [4] . In his youth under the influence of his uncle - Ivan Ge - Peter wanted to become an actor [5] .
In the 1880s, Peter Ge lived in the Chernigov province ( Nezhin , Giryavka, Borzna ), where he served in the local zemstvo [1] . In 1894, he moved to St. Petersburg , where he was elected to the city judges of the peace (1894-1914) [5] . In the years 1899-1901, Ge participated in the publication of the Marxist magazine "Life" [6] , in which he headed the art department [1] . He corresponded with Leo Tolstoy , Ilya Repin [7] and Viktor Vasnetsov [8] .
On June 4, 1894, Peter Ge sent Tolstoy from Nezhin a large letter describing the unexpected death of Nikolai Ge .

Ge was unhappy with the book V. V. Stasov "Nikolai Nikolayevich Ge, his life, works, correspondence" (St. Petersburg, 1904). [eight]
During the February Revolution, Peter Ge joined the Cadet party, "called for the protection of the existing order" [9] . In 1918 he received the rank of State Counselor . After April 17, 1918, she was killed (“she died from a skull fracture”), Peter Ge's wife, Catherine, moved to Kiev [10] .
In 1920, Peter Ge transferred most of his father’s paintings to the Kiev City Museum . During the Civil War, he was evacuated to Serbia with the army of Baron Wrangel : in the late 1920s, he lectured on the history of art in Belgrade .
The last years of his life, Peter Ge spent at the Russian Home for the Elderly. He was buried in the Novo Groblje cemetery (New cemetery) in Belgrade (the grave was discovered in 2011) [5] .

- The essay "The main currents of Russian painting of the XIX century in pictures from paintings" (Moscow, 1904) [11] .
- He wrote articles about art in the journal "Life" [6] (1899-1901): for example, "Characteristic currents of modern Russian painting" (1899, Jan., Vol. 1, p. 145-170). Ge's article appeared after the release of the first issue of the World of Art magazine and was a response to S. P. Dyagilev to his article “Our imaginary decline.”

Wife: (cousin) Ekaterina Ivanovna Zabela (Zabely, 1858–1918) - the sister of the singer Nadezhda Ivanovna Zabela-Vrubel , who became the wife of the artist M. A. Vrubel ; married since 1883.

- Nikolai Petrovich Ge (1884–1920) - a publicist and art critic , was friends with M. Vrubel and A. Blok , possessing a phenomenal memory - studied all European languages ; died in Kiev .

- Anastasia Petrovna Ge (1890 - after 1920) - during the First World War she worked as a sister of mercy, first in one of the hospitals of St. Petersburg , then in the front-line hospitals .
