Born in Istanbul in 1943. Mehmet Eymur’s father, Mazhar Eymur, worked in the National Security Service , the forerunner of MIT, and also participated in the suppression of the Dersim uprising [4] .
Mehmet Eymur studied at the Istanbul Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences ( Turkish : İstanbul İktisadi ve Ticari İlimler Yüksek Okulu ). [5] .
Personal life
Eymur has a wife, Jansset [6] , a son of the Alps [5] and a daughter, Aishe.
Career
Eymur joined MIT in 1965, while still a student [1] . In 1971, Eymur became one of the MIT employees who interrogated people arrested after the coup d'etat in the Villa Zeverbey [7] .
In 1984, Eimur, at that time the head of the anti-smuggling unit, took part in the “Godfathers Operation” ( tour Babalar Operasyonu ), whose goal was the fight against organized crime. As a result of the operation, in addition to a number of criminal leaders, bosses of the bosses, Dyndar Kylych , were arrested [8] [9] .
Eimur prepared a document that became known as the 1987 MIT Report, in which a number of politicians and statesmen, including Nevzat Ayaz , Unal Erkan and Mehmet Agar, were accused of having links with crime [10] [11] . In January 1988, the report hit the press and was published by the 2000'e Doğru. On June 10, 1988, Eymur resigned [12] . MIT management stated that the document was prepared without his knowledge [13] .
After the resignation, Amur, together with his MIT colleague, Korkut Eken, spent about five years doing business in Antalya [6] [10] .
In mid-1993, Tansu Chiller became Prime Minister of Turkey, after which Eimur returned to MIT and was appointed head of the special intelligence department ( tour. Özel İstihbarat Dairesi ) [14] . According to journalist Avni Ozgurel, this department was headed by Hiram Abas. Eymur later moved to the operations unit ( Tour. Operasyon Başkanlığı ). His boss was Shenkal Atasugun. Eymur and Atasugun did not get along, so Eymur asked the leadership to transfer him to another department [15] .
On January 31, 1995, Eymur was transferred to the counter-terrorism department, which had been set up shortly before [12] . This department was created by personal instruction to Tansu Chiller [16] , its employees took an active part in the Turkish-Kurdish conflict .
According to Eymur, after the transfer he was introduced to Mahmut Yıldırım, a hired killer known by the nickname “Yeshil” who worked for JİTEM . Subsequently, Eymur claimed that he did not know that at the time of his acquaintance with Yildirim, he was wanted. Also, according to Eymur, Yıldırım was never officially a member of MIT, but on the orders of Eymur, “Yesil” took part in several “operations” that were carried out outside Turkey [14] [17] . According to Eymur, the counter-terrorism department in which he worked was close to eliminating the PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan [18] , but the operation ended in failure due to sabotage [19] .
In March 1996, Mesut Yilmaz replaced Tansa Chiller as prime minister, after which the counter-terrorism department was closed [20] . Yilmaz claimed that MIT was against the existence of a counter-terrorism department, and, according to Mesut Yılmaz, this department worked for Fethullah Gulen . Subsequently, during the investigation of the Susurluk scandal , the police chief Khanefi Avji in court stated that the “Eymur gang” was acting illegally [6] .
In 1999, Eymur finally quit MIT and moved to Virginia.
In 2008, Eymur was repeatedly mentioned by the Turkish press as the person who could stand behind Tounjay Guney , who is considered the “key witness” in the Ergenekon case, Eymur himself denies any connection with Guney [21] .
