History
The commune of Mont Saint-Aignan was formed in 1819 by the merger of two ancient parishes - Saint-Enignant, which had the status of a city since the 12th century, and Mont-au-Malad, which received its name in honor of the hospital founded in the 12th century. In 1176, the English king Henry II built a church here in honor of St. Thomas of Canterbury , hoping to atone for his murder.
