HKS (color model)

Fan of flowers HKS.

HKS is a color model that contains 120 spot colors and 3,520 shades for coated and uncoated paper. HKS is the abbreviation of three German flower manufacturers: Hostmann-Steinberg Druckfarben, Kast + Ehinger Druckfarben and H. Schmincke & Co.

The HKS model is similar to the Pantone model and can be used in any print to produce predictable colors. Like Pantone, HKS has colors that cannot be reproduced using the CMYK color space . For example, these are colors such as bright orange or some shades of blue.

The HKS model is based on the euroscale color space. It follows the guidelines of ISO 12647: 2 2002 and FOGRA standards (e.g. Fogra27L). [1] This means that HKS colors are available for all types of 12647 standard paper, and it is also easier to print in offset and general digital printing.
