Omar McLeod ( born Omar McLeod ; born April 25, 1994 , Kingston , Jamaica ) is a Jamaican athlete specializing in 110 and 400 meter hurdles, the 2016 Olympic Games Champion in Rio de Janeiro . With a personal record in 110 meters hurdles (12.97 seconds), he occupies 15th place in the list of fastest times of all time [1] .

Content
Early career
MacLeod was a promising high school athlete, playing for Manchester High School and then Kingston College at 110 meters with hurdles and 400 meters with hurdles. He represented Jamaica at the Lille World Youth Championships in both disciplines, he took 4th place in the 110 meters hurdles and 8th in the 400 meters hurdles. At CARIFTA Games , he won gold medals in 400 meter hurdles for three years (2011, 2012 and 2013); he still has five medals in the 110 meters hurdles and in the 4x400 meters relay race, including gold in 2013. In 2012, as part of the Jamaican national team, he won the relay 4x400 meters at in San Salvador .
In 2013 , during his last year of high school, he set Jamaican junior records for 110 meters with hurdles (13.24) and 400 meters with barriers (49.98). Becoming the first Jamaican schoolchild to succeed in running out of 50.0 seconds in the 400 meters hurdles. After graduating from college in Kingston, he went to study at the University of Arkansas on athletics scholarships [2] .
MacLeod did not have experience working indoors before moving to the United States , but he quickly adapted. He won the 60m hurdles at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque , setting a personal record in the qualifying runs of 7.57 seconds and running 7.58 in the final. Outdoors, he finished second in the 110 meter hurdles at the Southeast Conference in the Eastern Region, but during the NCAA championship he pulled a tendon and missed the final.
MacLeod returned after an injury in 2015 , he won the Southeast Indoor Conference Championship with a personal record of 7.49 seconds. At the NCAA Championship , he won again, with a record in closed spaces - 7.45 seconds. Eugene went to the NCAA Open Championship as a favorite; and won it, showing a time of 13.08 seconds in the qualifying races and 13.01 in the final. In addition to his victory, MacLeod ran in the Arkansas team in the relay races 4 × 100 meters and 4 × 400 meters; Arkansas won the relay 4 × 100 m and showed the sixth time in the relay 4 × 400 m.
After the 2015 season, MacLeod became a professional athlete and signed a contract with Nike , giving up the remaining two years as an NCAA athlete, but remained in Arkansas to complete his training.

MacLeod won the 110 meter hurdles at the 2015 Jamaican Championship, breaking the national record for Hansle Partment , showing for the first time less than 13 seconds - 12.97; time was the best in the world for a week. The debut as a professional athlete took place at the István Gyulai Memorial in Szekesfehervar on July 7 , but due to a cramp, he failed to finish.
At the beginning of the 2016 season, he ran 100 meters in 9.99 seconds, becoming the first athlete who managed at that age to run out of 10 seconds at 100 meters and from 13 seconds at 110 meters with barriers [3] [4] .
At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, he won a gold medal in the 110 meter hurdles [5] [6] .
