Jewish history in Ghana
Aaron Ahomtre Toakyirafa, the leader of the community, who, as they say, had a vision in 1976, calls on members of the community Sefwi Wiawso to “return” to standard Judaism. In 2012, Toronto-based director Gabrielle Zilkha visited Sefwe Wiawso to conduct research for a documentary about the House of Israel. According to Zilke, about 200 people, mostly children, live in the community. She argues that without archival records it is very difficult to confirm the claims and assertions of the community, however, there is an oral tradition dating from around the beginning of the XIX century. Jewish buildings
The leader of the House of Israel since 1993, David Ankorah, had his own vision that he should put on his gown. [2] He was given a 40-acre piece of land to build a Jewish community school, but people could not raise funds for construction. Children are currently attending a local school run by Christians. The community built a synagogue in 1998 in New Adiembra, a Jewish quarter in Sefri Wiawso. Recently, the building was painted blue and white, the colors of the flag of Israel. [2] Parishioners of the Sigagogi include several families and about 200 people. [2]
