Biography

Born into a peasant family. Since 1894 he studied at Tomsk University , but in 1899 he was expelled for participating in student unrest, after which he left for Berlin . He managed to successfully pass a doctoral exam at the University of Berlin in 1900 and at the same time defend a thesis for a doctor of medicine. In the same year he returned to Russia, passed the state exam at Kazan University and became a certified doctor [1] .

In 1902 he returned to Berlin, then he joined the local Social Democratic organization. At the end of 1902 he returned to Tomsk , where he took part in the organization of the Iskra-ist group. In 1903 - member of the Siberian Social-Democrats Union and member of the Tomsk Committee.

In 1904 he joined the ranks of the Bolsheviks . At the beginning of 1906 he emigrated to Paris , took an active part in the emigrant box office and the Paris group of the Bolsheviks.

In 1913 he illegally returned to Russia. Arrested in the old case - for calling in 1905 to organize an armed uprising in Tomsk - sentenced to a year of solitary confinement.

After his release, he took up scientific and practical medical activities.

Since 1918 he worked in the People's Commissariat of Health . With his participation, the first special institute in the republic (named after him) was created for the training of venereologists and experimental work on the study of sexually transmitted diseases [2] .

From 1924 to 1932 - Head. department of higher medical education of the People's Commissariat for Education and a member of the board of Glavprofobra .

In May 1928, at the request of the People's Commissariat of Health, the Burtsik Central Executive Committee assigned the name of Professor V. M. Bronner to the Verkhneudinsky Venereological Dispensary [3] .

In the years 1931-1935 - head. Department of Skin and Sexually Transmitted Diseases, TsIU Doctors. At the same time (1932-1937), director of the State Venereological Institute (which bore his name), head of the foreign department of the USSR People's Commissariat of Health .

Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1934 [4] ), Hero of Health Labor (1923).

Arrested on October 23, 1937 on charges of espionage and participation in a terrorist organization. Shot March 7, 1939. He was buried in a common grave at the Don cemetery . Rehabilitated in April 1956

He was the initiator of the publication of the journal Venereology and Dermatology and his first responsible editor in 1924-1937. He took part in the creation of the Big Medical Encyclopedia in its first edition as editor of the Venereology department [5] .

Family

His wife, Elena Borisovna Bronner , nee Fuchsman - the daughter of a Siberian merchant, studied with V. M. Bronner in Berlin, and began revolutionary activities with him; after in 1921-1928 headed the sanatorium TSEKUBu in Kislovodsk .

The eldest daughter, Vera Vulfovna Bronner (1904-1997), a dietitian.

The middle daughter, Nelly Wolfovna Bronner (1913-1943), is an economist.

The son, Boris Vulfovich Bronner (1916-1991), is a communications engineer, an employee of the Central Telegraph and the Ministry of Communications of the USSR, the author of several books and textbooks.
