Mikhail Nikolai (born December 13, 1956 in Berlin ) is a former German gymnast . In 1980 and 1982, Nikolai was awarded the Order of Merit to the Fatherland .

Sporting Achievements
In the gymnastics competitions at the Summer Olympics in 1976 and 1980, Nikolai won the bronze and silver medals in team competitions as part of the East German (GDR) team. In individual competitions at two Olympics, he won two bronze medals in exercises on a horse; in 1980 he finished fourth in exercises on the horizontal bar and on the uneven bars [1] .
At the 1981 World Championships in Artistic Gymnastics, Nikolai won a gold medal in horseback riding, and a bronze medal in team competition in the 1978 championship [2] . He won silver at the 1977 European Championships in an exercise on a horse [3] .
The German Democratic Republic won a total of seven times in the championships: in 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1982 - in the exercises on the horse and parallel bars, in 1981, 1979 and 1981 - in the exercises on the parallel bars. In 1981, he won the championship in points in parallel bar exercises with his twin brother, Jörgen Nikolai.
