His father, Edward Peter Fazer (originally Fatzer), was a furrier (a master of fur dressing) of Swiss origin. Fazer studied bakery in Berlin, Paris, and St. Petersburg before becoming a pioneer in the Finnish confectionery industry. September 17, 1891, together with his wife Berta, opened a French-Russian confectionery store on Glogatan (Kluuvikatu) 3 in Helsinki. Later he opened chocolate and candy factories in the Rodberg area (Finnish. Punavuori). Fazer, founded by him, still exists. Many of its products have become classic, especially Fazer Blue (Fazerin Sininen in Finnish, Fazer Blå in Swedish), a chocolate brand often compared to salmiaki, sweets that are part of Finnish national identity. The Fazer Blue recipe (Swiss) appeared in the family as a thank you to Karl Fazer's son Sven Fazer for caring for a sick boy. This recipe has been used since 1922, when chocolate was introduced to the market in its characteristic blue packaging.
Karl Fazer was a nature lover, bird connoisseur, hunter and fisherman. He founded many natural parks in Finland.
Karl Fazer was also a great shooter and participated in the 1912 Olympics. Took 12th place in the standings and fifth place in the team.
