Red Book
Hutia Garrido is a rare, little-studied species that lives in a small area. The number is unknown, but very small.
The only known specimen was caught in 1967. In 1979, a special expedition failed to catch a single animal, but traces of their activity were discovered.
The main reason for the decline is uncontrolled hunting for meat. Protected by law. The habitats of the Garrido huti are declared a protected area. [2]
Habitat
Jardines banks are common on several small islands - east of Pinos and 40 km south of Sapata Peninsula in Cuba. Overgrown with red mangroves. Ecology has not been studied. [2]
