Geshko, Ivan Tarasovich

Ivan Tarasovich Geshko (born August 19, 1979 in Klivodina ) is a Ukrainian athlete, Honored Master of Sports of Ukraine in Athletics, European and World 1,500m Running Champion, participant in the Olympic Games in Sydney , Athens (5th place) and Beijing (did not go to the start due to back problems).

Biography

Born in the village of Klivodin, Kitsmansky district , Chernivtsi region . He grew up and was brought up in Kitsmani with his grandmother Arina Andreevna.

He graduated from Kitsmansky secondary school, the higher republican school of the Olympic reserve, the faculty of physical education of the Kamenetz-Podolsk State Pedagogical University , where he studied in graduate school since 2006, in 2004-2011 he studied at the Chernivtsi Trade and Economic Institute of KNTEU .

September 21, 2004 SBU awarded the “Cross of Valor” II degree. At the end of 2005 he was awarded the medal “For Labor and Victory” . On August 24, 2006 he was awarded the Order of Bukovina.

At the beginning of 2004 he received housing in Chernivtsi , a warrant for a two-room apartment during the show program “Pop Stars - Sports Stars” was handed over by the Chernivtsi city chairman Nikolai Fedoruk.

In 2005, together with the deputy of the Chernivtsi City Council Valery Chinush and the head of the regional sport, Georgy Mazurashu, he initiated and organized the Chernivtsi Region Open Cup for 1 mile race “Bukovina Mile”, which in 2006 became international. In 2005-2007, he won these competitions. I gave the prize money to the regional child’s house in Chernivtsi.

In 2007, the Geshko Sports Club was founded in his honor [1] .

Sports career

He began to engage in sports from the fifth grade at the Kitsmansky youth sports school. The first year is in the football section. Then two more years later a day went to athletics and football, which alternated with handball. Further specialized in athletics.

From the first years of athletics, regularly won awards at regional competitions.

The first major success in the national arena was a victory at a distance of 3000 m in the youth games of 1995 - 8.44.27. The first significant international achievement was the “silver” of the European Youth Championship in 2001 at a distance of 1,500 meters.

The standard of the master of sports was fulfilled in 1997, the master of sports of international class - in 2001. The title of Honored Master of Sports was awarded on April 26, 2004.

In 2000, he made his debut at the Olympic Games in Sydney at a distance of 1,500 meters. In 2003, he was the first among the representatives of Eastern Europe to become the winner of the World Championships at a distance of 1,500 m ( Paris , France , 3rd place). The best athlete of the year in Bukovina .

In 2004, he won the silver medal at the indoor indoor championship in Budapest ( Hungary ) at a distance of 1,500 m (lost 0.03 to Kenyan Korir at the finish). At the Olympic Games in Athens, he finished fifth at a distance of 1,500 meters (he started early finishing spurt to fight El Gerroj and Lagat for "gold", and was left without a medal) and made his way to the 800-meter semifinal. Won the Grand Prix finals in Monaco at a distance of 1,500 meters. The best athlete of the year in Bukovina.

In 2005, he became the European champion indoors in Madrid ( Spain ) at a distance of 1,500 m (he was leading from the second round to the finish). Took fourth place at the World Championships in Helsinki ( Finland ). For the second year in a row, with a good finishing spurt, he won the Grand Prix finals in Monaco at a distance of 1,500 meters. The best athlete of the year in Bukovina.

In 2006, he celebrated his victory at the indoor indoor championship in Moscow ( Russia ) at a distance of 1,500 meters. He got first place at a distance of 1500 m and second place at a distance of 800 m at the European Cup in Malaga (Spain). He was awarded a special prize as the best athlete of the European Cup. The final spurt won the Golden League stage in Paris at a distance of 1500 meters. At the European Championships in Gothenburg ( Sweden ) he finished second at a distance of 1,500 meters. At the World Cup in Athens ( Greece ) he won second place at a distance of 1,500 m, and as part of the European team he won the main trophy. In March and June 2006 he was recognized as the best athlete in Ukraine.

January 14, 2007 during the ceremony "Athena" recognized as the best athlete in Ukraine in 2006. The best athlete of the year in Bukovina.
