The village was in the Volga region , on the left bank of the Volga [1] .
History
Founded as a German colony in 1767. According to the great Saratov Encyclopedia, the first settlers are 148 immigrants from Saxony [2] , according to V.F. The founders of Dysendorf are 73 families from Saxony, Prussia , Hesse-Darmstadt and Brandenburg [3] . The German name "Jost" - by the name of the first headman, was also known as "Obernberg" (the last name was given by the caller) [4] . The official Russian name is Popovkina . Calling colony of Leroy and Petit. In 1774, plundered by the Pugachevites [4] .
In 1910, the colony had zemstvo and parish schools, a steam and four windmills, and an oil mill functioned. The colony belonged to the Stepnovskaya volost of the Novouzensk district of the Samara province [2] .
During the famine of 1921, 80 people were born, 147 died. In 1926 there were a village council, a machine partnership, and an elementary school [3] . Since 1922 - as part of the Volsky (subsequently renamed Kukkussky ) canton of the Volga Germans Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic .
In 1927, in connection with the liquidation of the Volsky (Kukkusky) canton, it was included in the Zelmansky canton . In the same year, the decree of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee On Changes in the Administrative Division of the Autonomous Autonomous Region S.S.R. The Volga Germans and the appropriation of the former names to German villages that existed until 1914 ”the name Iost was returned to the village of Popovkino of the Zelmansky canton [5] . In 1935, it was transferred to the newly formed Kukku canton.
On August 28, 1941, a Decree of the Presidium of the USSR Armed Forces on the resettlement of Germans living in the Volga region was issued. The German population was deported to the northern regions of the Kazakh SSR [2] . After the liquidation of the Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic of the Volga Germans, the village, like other settlements of the Kukkus canton, was included in the Saratov region , renamed the village of Oktyabrskoe [2] .
As a result of filling the Volgograd reservoir, the western part of the village was flooded [2] .
