Sports career

Timmers began his career in Belgium at the club De Beringse Tuimelaars , but in 2009 Timmers joined the Eindel Club Eiffel Swimmers PSV . For eighteen months in Eindhoven, Timmers improved his personal best at 100 m freestyle from 52.30 s. to 49.76 s. In the same year, at the age of 22, he made his debut at an international tournament, at the 2010 European Short Course Swimming Championships , where he became the eighteenth at the 100 m freestyle and twenty-second at the 200 m freestyle.

In 2011, Timmers made his first appearance at the World Championships in Shanghai , where his best achievement was the thirteenth place in the 4x200 meter freestyle relay. After the World Cup, Timmers returned to Belgium and joined the BRABO Antwerp club. In 2012, he took part in the Olympic Games for the first time: as a member of a 4x100 meter freestyle team, he became the eighth, 4x200 meter - the twelfth. The same year was for Timmers the year of the first medals in international competitions: at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Chartres, he won silver in the individual 200-meter freestyle and bronze at the 4x50 meter freestyle relay.

In October 2013, Timmers had a pneumothorax ; in spite of this, he decided to take part in the European championship in short-distance swimming , where he won a bronze medal as part of the 4x50 meter freestyle team. In order to reduce the risk of re-pneumothorax in February 2014, Timmers underwent a lung operation. In the same year, he won a bronze medal in the 4x200 relay. In 2015, he won two individual silver medals at the European Short Course Swimming Championship : 100 m freestyle and 200 m freestyle [1] .

At the 2016 Olympics, he took part in the 100 m freestyle. In the qualifying round showed the ninth result (48.46 s.); in the semifinal - the sixth (48.14 p.) and finally in the final - the second (47.80 p.), thereby winning the silver medal. [2]
