History

Appearance

The first documentary evidence of the village of Bratsevo dates back to 1565. For a short time Brattsevo belonged to the monastery , then the boyar D.I. Godunov , the nobles A.I. and M.I. Zubov , A.M. Supnevoy . The latter sold it in 1657 to the gunsmith Bogdan Matveevich Khitrovo . Being close to Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich , he received the rank of butler of the boyar and in 1661 was in charge of the affairs of the Armory . Under him, large-scale construction began in Brattsevo . Then the stone church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin was built.

The time of the construction of the temple is evidenced by an inscription in Old Russian script on a stone slab: “Summer of 7180 (1672) August, on the 30th day, under the authority of the Great Sovereign and Grand Duke Alexei Mikhailovich All Great and small and white Russia, the Autocrat built this church in his patrimony in the village of Brattsovo and the gunsmith Bogdan Matveevich - the name of the name Job - Khitrovo and his wife, the boyar Maria Ivanovna. " In the past, a stove was built into the church porch from the outside. Subsequently, it was taken out and stored in the church. In July 2012 , it was mounted back into the wall.

Soviet period

After 1917, the church gradually deteriorated, the most valuable pieces of furniture and temple icons were removed from it. The temple itself was closed in early 1934 at the initiative of the Progress factory. Soon the bell tower was broken, the drums of the chapters, the dilapidated porticoes, were dismantled. In the partially rebuilt temple building in the mid-1960s there was a dye factory, then a warehouse, a service station. The building of the parish school was occupied by housing, a store was located in the gatehouse.

Temple Modern Life

The first service ( All-Night Vigil ) took place on October 13, 1992 ; a small consecration of the temple was made . The first Divine Liturgy was celebrated on April 17, 1993, on Holy Saturday . From 1992 to 1993, the rector of the church was Priest Alexy Mashkov, from 1993 to 1994 - Priest Anatoly Gudanov, from 1994 to 2012 - Archpriest Mikhail Maleev, from 2012 to 2019 - Priest Dimitri Efanov [1] , from 2019 to the present time - priest Vladimir Togotin [2] .

Currently, there are a children's and adult Sunday school at the church, catechism courses, public talks, a parish library and an educational lecture hall. In addition, the youth movement “Obraz” [3] operates, there is a photo school, a circle of English for children, and master classes are held. Orthodox psychologists and a speech therapist work at the church; there is an opportunity to get legal assistance. A church shop is open at the temple.

As part of social activities, humanitarian aid is collected and distributed among social institutions, as well as among low-income large families, and in need of rural churches in the Moscow Region. Concerts and master classes are held in the district's social service centers, and parishioners of the church participate in the organization and conduct of these.

Architecture

The Bratsevskaya Church is a pillarless church in the form of double-light quadruples , covered by a closed arch and crowned by the classical Moscow five-domes and tiers of kokoshniks . From the west, the refectory and the bell tower , set on the same axis, adjoined the church, and the strongly extended three - part apse from the east. The absence of a tall and slender bell tower, which once supplemented and balanced the building, is a significant drawback of the modern look of the temple.

The main cornice was decorated with colored tiles ; all the five chapters of the temple were decorated with exactly the same tiles, only with a finer pattern. The presence of tiles is one of the remarkable features of the temple. A tiled belt goes around the temple from all sides under the kokoshniks of the main tetrahedron. It consists of a set of separate rectangular tiles covered with irrigated multicolor ornament in the form of rosettes. Geometrical images imitating inflorescences painted in yellow, blue, white colors stand out against a green background of low relief. The main belt is echoed by the lower irrigation roller and the cornice jib. The reliefs of the cherubs in the tympans of the kokoshniks are unique. Their blue wings and sculptural appearance of the head stand out sharply against the background of whitewashing, giving additional expressiveness to the polychrome along the upper part of the temple. The last row of tiled decorations crowned the upper parts of the drums under the heads of the church. It has not survived to the present day. It was the tiles that endowed the temple with notes of festivity.

The temple currently has two chapels : in honor of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary and in honor of St. John Chrysostom .
