Duke of Ansola

Duke de Ansola - Spanish aristocratic title. It was created on March 15, 1887 by King Alfonso XIII for his relative, Louis de Jesus de Bourbon and Bourbon-Braganza (1864–1889).

Luis de Jesus de Bourbon was the third son of Infant Sebastian Gabriel de Bourbon and Braganza (1811–1875) and Princess Maria Cristina de Bourbon and the Bourbon-Sicilian (1833–1902). Sebastian was the only son of the Infanta Pedro Carlos de Bourbon and the Infanta Maria Theresa of Portugal , the eldest daughter of the King of Portugal, Juan VI . Luis had four brothers, two of whom, Francisco Maria de Bourbon and Pedro de Alcantara de Bourbon, also bore the ducal titles.

History of the Dukes of Ansol

  • Louis de Jesus de Bourbon and Bourbon (1864–1889), 1st Duke de Ansola, third son of the Infant Sebastian Gabriel de Bourbon and Braganç (1811–1875) and Princess Maria Cristina de Bourbon and Bourbon-Sicilian (1833–1902). He was married by an organic marriage to Ana Herman Bernaldo de Quiros and Munoz, 1st Marquise de Atarfe (1866-1934), having lost the rights to the Spanish throne. He was succeeded by his eldest son:
  • Luis de Bourbon and Bernaldo de Quiros (1887-1945), 2nd Duke of Ansola. He married Beatrice Mary Harrington (1891-1971), from whom he had no children. His younger brother was his successor:
  • Manfredo de Bourbon and Bernaldo de Quiros (1889-1979), 3rd Duke of Ansola, 2nd Marquis de Atorfe, 1st Duke of Hernani. He was twice married. His first wife was Maria Leticia de Santo Marina and Romero (1899-1925). For the second time he married Maria Theresa of Mariatega and Arteaga (born 1914), the daughter of Count Quintana de las Torres and the 15th Marquise de La Guardia. Both marriages were childless. After his death, the title of the Duke de Ansola was inherited by his relative, Juan Jorge Walford and Bourbon (1912-1999), the eldest son of Maria Cristina de Bourbon, 2nd Duchess de Marchena (1889-1981), and Leopold Herbert George Walford (1881-1958) . And the title of the Duke de Hernani was received by the Infanta Margarita de Bourbon (born 1939), the younger sister of the King of Spain, Juan Carlos I.
