BeIA differed from BeOS in platform independence and focus on web and multimedia applications. The user interface of the system was browser based. Unlike BeOS, which started Tracker and Deskbar when loading, BeIA loaded the system directly into the Opera browser interface (like modern Google Chrome OS ).
The system included applications for web surfing, audio streaming, video playback and email communication. The system booted up very quickly, it was developed for x86 and PowerPC architectures , it required at least 8 megabytes of permanent memory ( hard disk , CompactFlash ), as well as 32 megabytes of RAM. BeIA has been licensed for a small set of Sony , Compaq and Qubit devices [1] [2] .
