A particulate filter (also a “particulate filter”, English diesel particulate filter (DPF) , FAP) is part of the exhaust system of a car with a diesel engine .
Designed to reduce the amount of soot (soot particles) in the exhaust gases. It is a ceramic block made of silicon carbide with a large number of thin channels for the passage of exhaust gases. Particles of soot, lingering on the surface of these channels, under the influence of elevated temperature and other factors are oxidized and converted into carbon dioxide are emitted into the atmosphere with exhaust gases. Structurally placed in a separate metal casing and is located directly after the turbine or after the catalyst (or after the second catalyst, if there are two of them). It has been installed in Europe on cars with a diesel engine since 2001, in accordance with the requirements of environmental standards Euro-4.
