Biography
Born and raised in Martinique , a small island and overseas department of France in the Caribbean . He started athletics at the age of 7, while being fond of football (playing as a goalkeeper) and swimming. However, in these sports he was not successful, so the choice was made in favor of running [1] .
In 2004, he left the island and went to France, where he entered the National Institute of Sport and Physical Education. Constantly changing clubs and training facilities, Dimitri nonetheless progressed every year and invariably improved his personal record in 110 meters hurdles. At 21, he became the champion of France for the first time, participated in the 2009 World Cup , where he showed the best result in his career in the semifinals (13.49).
He regularly participated in the finals of various international competitions. In 2010, he became 4th at the European Championships , in 2011 he took the same place at the Universiade . He participated in the 2012 Olympics . In London, he stopped at the semifinal stage.
Since 2013, he began training under the leadership of Giscard Samba at the US Creteil club.
In 2014, he finished third at the European Championships , but was disqualified because he ran onto a neighboring track at the finish line and interfered with the Hungarian Balazu Bayi .
In the winter of 2015, he achieved his first major success in his career - he became the silver medalist of the European Indoor Championship , losing only to his compatriot Pascal Martino-Lagarde in the final . He ran in the finals of the 2015 World Cup , where he finished 5th.
2016 was one of the best in the career of Dimitri. He won the awards of all major international competitions in which he participated. In February, he set a new France record in 60m hurdles (7.41), and a month later became third at the World Winter Championships (7.48). In July, for the first time in his career, became the champion of Europe .
At his second Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Basque won a bronze medal, passing only Jamaican Omar Macleod and Spaniard Orlando Ortega ahead of themselves.
Among the interests of Dimitri, in addition to sports, are rap and Japanese culture. Basku's younger brother, Emerik , also performs 110 meters hurdles [2] .
