The award, named on France info “the dark side of literary prizes” [2] , is awarded annually at the end of September “in recognition and respect for (name), the only and worthy person, according to the definition of his age. Liberal authenticity, which, having overcome the vicissitudes of the revolution and the dominance of the moral order, break the prison collars of both literature and politics ” [1] .
The laureate is proclaimed a "contemporary artist." At the first presentation of prizes in 2001, the recipients also received sadomasochistic lashes-tails created by Jean-Paul Gaultier [3] .

In 2017, the prize was won by Voyeur Motel , a book by 85-year-old gay journalist Gay Teliz , a collaborator with the New York Times and Esquire , who won the 2011 Norman Mailer Prize. The author talks about a meeting with this man and quotes extracts from his notes (he, in particular, witnessed the murder). Sam Mendes is going to film this story [9] .
