Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University ) (founded in 1930); initiator and one of the developers of the first Law of Turkmenistan on nature protection, adopted by the Parliament of the republic in 1963; founder and chairman of the Turkmen Society for the Conservation of Nature (1968-1998); organizer of the creation of the Red Book of Turkmenistan (first issue in 1985).
Scientific Views
In 1938, Anver Keyushevich Rustamov graduated with honors from the natural faculty of the Ashgabat Pedagogical Institute named after A.M. Gorky . In those years, the famous researcher of the animal kingdom of Central Asia, Professor Mikhail Konstantinovich Laptev (1885-1948), who headed the department of zoology, worked at the university. The creative atmosphere, a rich library, an extensive zoological collection, a wonderful museum of natural history at the department, and work in the scientific student group awakened A.K. Rustamova has a great interest in science. On the formation of A.K. Rustamov, as a scientist, was greatly influenced by his many years of work and friendship with his teacher Georgy Petrovich Dementyev (1898-1969), a world-famous bird watcher, professor at Moscow University. M.V. Lomonosov . He has A.K. Rustamov was a doctoral student, worked with him in the field and in his office, published joint scientific works, replenished and expanded scientific knowledge, using his rich library, and most importantly, the teacher generously shared his extensive encyclopedic knowledge with the student. G.P. Dementiev introduced A.K. Rustamova in the circle of famous zoologists who worked in the Zoological Museum and the Faculty of Biology of Moscow University in the middle of the 20th century: Sergey Ivanovich Ognev , Vladimir Georgievich Geptner , Sergey Sergeevich Turov, Alexander Nikolaevich Formozov , Nikolai Alekseevich Gladkov , George Vasilyevich Nikolsky , Evgeny Pavlovich Spangenberg, Evgeny Ptushenko S. et al. Development of faunal, ecological and zoogeographical problems, thanks to research these and other scientists, in those years in the Soviet Union was in rastsve e. Communicating and working side by side with these scientists, A.K. Rustamov could not help but feel his beneficial influence.
Along with studying the ecology and zoogeography of desert avifauna, scientists have done much in other aspects of ornithology. A.K. Rustamov was, in fact, one of the pioneers of research in the field of anthropogenic landscape: the concept of “anthropogenic landscape”, its classification, environmental and ethological changes that occur in birds in connection with conditions in such landscapes, regional features of the fauna of arid landscapes, transformed into anthropogenic, finally, the goals and objectives of anthropogenic zoogeography as a scientific direction, here is the circle studied by A.K. Rustamov questions on this issue.
Among many ornithological publications A.K. Rustamov should highlight the monograph “Birds of Turkmenistan” (1958), concerning the order of passerines, in which the author acts as a faunist, taxonomist, ecologist, and zoogeographer. It is worth noting that the scientist’s ornithological work goes far beyond the borders of Turkmenistan. He was the co-author of the multi-volume editions “Birds of the Soviet Union” (1954), “Birds of the USSR” (1982), “Birds of Russia and adjacent territories” (1993, 2005), “Birds of Central Asia” (2007).
Teaching and enlightenment
Life and work of A.K. Rustamov was associated with Turkmenistan, one of the distinctive and naturally most interesting regions. Many naturalists and biologists conducted research here. Against this background, the activities of A.K. Rustamov, who, having absorbed the best traditions of science of that time, managed in a short time to become one of the leading zoologists of the USSR. His name became known after the defense in March 1950 of his doctoral dissertation and the subsequent publication of the monograph “Birds of the Karakum Desert” (1954). The young doctor of sciences was not yet 33 years old - at that time, not many biologists of the country had such an age qualification, and in the TSSR he was the first among zoologists who defended his doctoral dissertation.
The circle of scientific interests of A.K. Rustamova is wide: ornithology, herpetology, zoogeography, protection of rare species and biodiversity, history of zoology, scientific and methodological problems of higher education. However, the main thing for him was ornithology and his favorite object of study - birds, whom A.K. Rustamov, following G.P. Dementiev considered as a model to study common biological issues. In particular, in the above-mentioned book on Karakum birds, as in other publications, many features of the adaptation of animal organisms to arid conditions of existence are clarified: parallel adaptations in many bird species are mostly the same for desert forms and are aimed at adaptation to the existence of various animal species in extreme conditions of moisture deficiency, excess insolation and a sharp temperature drop. As a result, the scientist came to the conclusion that the ecological, physiological and ethological devices developed under the pressure of selection serve the birds to save energy costs, save moisture and maintain metabolism at a relatively low level.
Peru A.K. Rustamov owns more than 500 publications - monographs, textbooks, brochures, articles, theses, reflecting the rich scientific material obtained in the expeditions. They are not just registered facts, but also original scientific generalizations. The scientist introduced his understanding into the “concept of life forms in animal ecology”, which A.K. Rustamov considers, based on ecological-geographical isomorphism, which historically led to the development in animals from different systematic groups of similar morphological, ecological, and ethological adaptations in the conditions of the corresponding landscapes. A number of works paid great attention to the principles of zoogeographic analysis of regional faunas and elucidation of the ecological and geographical essence of the concept of “zoogeographic complex”. Important thoughts have been expressed about polyphagy, followed, according to the scientist, by a certain food specialization. Some works address the dynamics of animal numbers and the predator-prey relationship.
He carried out active activities under the auspices of the All-Union Society “Knowledge” , the Turkmen Republican Committee for Peace, the Education Commission of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Turkmen Society for the Conservation of Nature, which was formed on the initiative of A.K. Rustamova in 1968. Participated in the development of environmental education and upbringing programs, in the dissemination of knowledge about nature conservation. One of the founders of environmental legislation, the developer of the First Law of Turkmenistan on Nature Protection (1963) and the Red Book of Turkmenistan (1985). He was a member of the Scientific Council of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR for UNESCO Programs " Man and the Biosphere " and UNESCO / UNEP for Education in the Field of Environment. He was a member of the editorial board of the journal “Izvestiya AN TSSR, a series of biological sciences”, led a great editorial work in other publishing houses, the author of many popular science brochures and articles for the general reader, and often appeared on the pages of newspapers and magazines.

Family
Paternal grandfather - Alesker Rustambek-oglu - comes from a family of the Bek landowner who had land allotments in Karabakh in the middle of the XIX century. But after the peasant reform of the 1870s in Transcaucasia, which led to the loss of tribal lands, he settled in the city of Agdam, where he owned a stable with a brigade of phaeton workers in a caravanserai. In 1902, Alesker Rustambek-oglu left Karabakh to Zakaspiy and settled in Askhabad. His eldest son, Keyush, the father of Anver Keyushevich, was a school teacher who moved to Ashgabat with his family later - in 1916, i.e. one year before the birth of A.K. Rustamova.
In the fall of 1938, Anver Keyushevich met with E.A. Yukhtovskaya (born 1918), a native of Blagoveshchensk, where back in the 19th century the ancestors of her father moved - Polish emigrants from Ukraine. Elizaveta Alexandrovna arrived in the city of Ashgabat and studied at the philological faculty of the Ashgabat Pedagogical Institute named after A.M. Gorky. On the eve of the new 1942, they got married. Their married life lasted more than 60 years. In September 1942, Bella's daughter was born; in 1945 - son Igor; in 1952 - the second son of Eldar. In addition to three children, - 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, great-granddaughter and great-great-granddaughter (2016). Bell's daughter is a biochemist, Ph.D., works at Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov; eldest son Igor after graduating from MVTU im. N.E.Bauman Moscow State Technical University named after N.E. Bauman in Moscow worked at the Central Design Bureau of Production Association Arsenal Plant in Kiev, where he lives now; Eldar - followed in the footsteps of his father, became a zoologist, doctor of biological sciences, professor.
