Ivan M. Dogel (1830-1916) - Russian scientist- pharmacologist . Distinguished Professor , Honorary Member of the Military Medical Academy , Kazan and Yurievsky (now Tartu) universities, foreign academies and societies. The main works are devoted to pharmacology, physiology and anatomy of the cardiovascular and nervous systems.

Biography
He graduated from the Kovno gymnasium (1850), then - Medico-Surgical Academy in St. Petersburg (1854). In 1862 he was sent abroad; He studied first at the University of Heidelberg under the leadership of Helmholtz , Kirchhoff and Bunsen , then 2 years in the laboratory of Ludwig in Leipzig , and he was especially interested in histology and physiology of the blood circulation. He defended his doctoral dissertation at Moscow University "A Modern View on the Structure and Administration of the Lymphatic Glands ." The basis of his research Dogel put comparative anatomical and comparative physiological methods.
His son, Michael , was born in 1865 in Heidelberg.
In 1868 he was elected privat-docent of the Medical Academy, and in the next, in 1869, he was confirmed as an extraordinary and then as an ordinary professor in the department of pharmacology at Kazan University .
Professional Achievements
I. M. Dogel - one of the founders of experimental pharmacology. He for the first time (1866) experimentally showed the possibility of a reflex arrest of the heart during stimulation of the sensory nerve endings of the nasal mucosa. Actively participated in the fight against plague, cholera, typhoid, struggled with alcoholism; delivered public lectures, reports and articles.
