Biography
Kirsten was born into a hereditary track and field family. Father - Ewan Makaslan, two-time champion of the UK among students. Mother - Fiona Hargreaves , 400 meter runner, participant in the 1986 Commonwealth Games . Grandfather Jim Macaslan and Uncle Stewart performed in the hurdles [2] .
She is Scottish by nationality, therefore, at the Commonwealth Games and domestic starts she stands for this country (although she grew up in English Manchester ).
In 2011, she participated in the European Junior Championships , where she could not reach the individual final of the 400 meters race, but helped the team win the relay 4x400 meters. Due to a stress fracture of the scaphoid of the foot, I was forced to miss most of the next season after spending about a month in a cast. Therefore, its breakthrough in 2013 was largely unexpected. At the national championship, she became 5th with a personal record of 52.85, after which she was included in the national team for the world championship . Kirsten held the first competitions of this rank as an observer - she never found a place in the four relay either in the race or in the final [2] .
Before the 2014 Commonwealth Games, it recovered for a long time after a hamstring injury, but found the strength to go to the start. In the 4x400 meter relay race, the Scottish team did not have quite a bit to get into the final race.
The year 2015 turned out to be one of the most successful in the career of Macaslan. In early January, she set a Scotland record in running 600 meters indoors [3] , showing the 17th time in world history (1.26.22). She won the country's winter championship, and a week after this success she set an absolute personal record in the arena, 52.28. At the European Indoor Championships, she became the silver medalist in the relay race, speaking at the final stage. In the summer, she represented her country at the European Youth Championship . In the 400-meter personal race, she became fifth in the final, and in the relay race she won gold and helped the team set the UK record among youth (3.30.07).
Participated in the preliminary relay races at the 2015 World Cup . In the final, where the British won bronze medals, Olympic champion Kristin Ohuruogu fled instead.
In 2016, she suffered an infectious mononucleosis , almost did not compete, including missed the selection for the Olympic Games .
Trained under the leadership of Trevor Painter, husband and mentor of the British 800-meter runner Jennifer Meadows . Graduated in biochemistry from Bath University. In the process of training, she often has to train independently in preparation for exams (the Painter training base is located in Manchester, which is almost 300 km from Bath) [3] .
Kirsten herself perceives performances in the 400-meter race as preparation for the transition to a distance twice as long (participation in 800-meter races has to be constantly postponed due to the large number of injuries) [4] .
