Amateur career

In 2012, he became the champion of Venezuela among youth in the weight category up to 40 kg ^[3] .

2015 World Boxing Series

Represented the Caciques de Venezuela team (Venezuela). He performed in the 1st lightest weight category (up to 49 kg). On January 17, 2015, he lost to Mardan Berikbaev of Kazakhstan ^[4] . January 30, 2015 defeated the American Nico Hernandez ^[5] . February 14, 2015 defeated the Argentine Christian Roda ^[6] . February 28, 2015 defeated the Pole David Jagodzinsky ^[7] . March 28, 2015 defeated the Puerto Rican Anthony Chacon ^[8] . April 18, 2015 lost to the Irish Paddy Barnes ^[9] .

2015 Pan American Games

He performed in the 1st lightest weight category (up to 49 kg). In the 1/8 finals, Canadian P.G. Tondo defeated. In the quarterfinals, the Colombian Ubergen Martinez defeated. In the semifinals, he lost to Cuban Joanis Archilagos ^[10] .

He performed in the lightest weight category (up to 52 kg). In the 1/16 finals, Dominican Leonel de los Santos defeated ^[14] . In the 1/8 finals, Briton Mohammed Ali was defeated by the ^[15] . In the quarterfinal, he defeated Algerian Mohamed Flissy. ^[16] In the semifinals, he lost to Uzbek Shakhobidin Zoirov ^[17] . The silver medalist of the tournament, Russian Misha Aloyan, failed the doping test and was deprived of a medal. Finol became the silver medalist ^[18] .

Represented the Caciques de Venezuela team (Venezuela). He performed in the lightest weight category (up to 52 kg). On March 17, 2017, he defeated Cuban Yoswani Veitia ^[19] . On April 21, 2017, he defeated the Argentinean Fernando Martinez ^[20] .

2018 World Boxing Series

Represented the Caciques de Venezuela team (Venezuela). He performed in the lightest weight category (up to 56 kg). On February 23, 2018, Colombian John Martinez defeated ^[21] . March 23, 2018 defeated the Cuban Robesi Ramirez ^[22] . On April 7, 2018, he lost to Uzbek player Shahobidin Zoirov ^[23] .

2018 South American Games

He performed in the lightest weight category (up to 56 kg). The Brazilian Arlison Gonçalves defeated the quarterfinals. Ecuadorian Jean Caichedo defeated in the semifinals. In the final, he defeated the Argentine Carlos Alanis ^[24] .

2019 World Cup

He performed in the semi-light weight category (up to 57 kg). In the 1/32 finals, the German defeated Raman Sharafu. In the 1/16 finals, he lost to Kazakhstani Kairat Eraliev .

He made his debut in the professional ring on July 6, 2019. He won by TKO in the 4th round ^[25] .

Family

Son-in-law (sister's husband) - Edwin Valero , Venezuelan professional boxer. World Champion in the 2nd semi-lightweight ( WBA , 2006-2008) and lightweight ( WBC , 2009—2010) weight categories. It was Valero who instilled in Finol a love of boxing. On April 18, 2010, Valero, suffering from alcohol and drug addiction, was arrested on suspicion of killing his wife ^[26] ^[27] ^[28] ^[29] . The boxer surrendered to the police and confessed to his deed ^[30] ^[31] . A few hours later he hanged himself in a prison cell ^[32] ^[33] ^[34] . During a speech at the 2016 Olympics, Yoel said he forgave Valero:

I forgave him. Despite the fact that he killed my sister, I forgive him. At first I could not accept what had happened, but then I gained faith in God and learned to forgive. He taught me how to throw shots, taught me the basics. He gave me street fights to make me a man. He wanted me to become a world champion, and he would be my agent. He was broken by drugs. They changed him, because in reality he was not a bad person. My path was long and difficult, but I took the first step. The Lord took my sister and Edwin from me, but he gave something in return - he made me better.
